Last week ended the 4th year of Habitat for Humanity builds that Voyage Federal Credit Union and 6 of their business partners have been involved in. Our partner for last week’s build was Lewis Drug and the week prior we worked with Raven Industries. The summer heat was lingering into September
as we gathered together to work on our Habitat for Humanity build with our Lewis Drug partners. After arriving we enjoyed some pizza donated by Orion Foods for the volunteers. Our evening tasks included working on siding the house and caulk the windows, therefore we needed a few willing volunteers to work up high on scaffolding and ladders. Thankfully, some hands were raised! Those of us that were more comfortable helping with tasks on the ground, helped to get supplies and tools, cut and carry siding and assisted in construction clean up inside the house and around the yard. Both the Saturday groups were joined with part of the homeowners family as well as church groups that have been volunteering all summer! This last Saturday gave us perfect weather with a cool breeze and the increased number of volunteers rapidly finished framing work in the basement as well as installing windows! It was bittersweet saying goodbye to the volunteers and families at the end of the day. However, we will all see each other soon at the Home Dedication when the houses are finished and ready for their families!
