As an active member of the community, Voyage FCU takes pride in participating in events that help to make our community better in any way possible – for all of us. Employees volunteer in various activities throughout the year, including fundraisers, giveaways, donation drives, building homes, blood drives, and so much more.

Feeding South Dakota

The Voyage team had the pleasure of helping the hardworking staff at Feeding South Dakota, over the course of two days, by packing bags for the mobile pantry and sorting and boxing food for the on-site pantry. If you are familiar with Feeding SD, then you know the importance of the role they play in our communities and the much-needed gap they fill for those who are struggling to provide food for themselves and/or their families. If Feeding SD is new to you then let’s get you acquainted. Feeding SD is a hunger relief organization that is fighting daily to eliminate hunger in the state of South Dakota. Every week, they assist in providing temporary food assistance to approximately 21,000 hungry individuals and families in our communities and the BackPack Program gives food every weekend to over 5,500 kids who might otherwise go hungry.

So, I have a question for you. When was the last time that you spent $8 on one meal out, or maybe even more than that? It sure is easy to do. What if you could spend $8 and provide one meal to a hungry child or senior EVERY DAY FOR A YEAR? Don’t think it’s possible? It is with Feeding SD. Because of their partnership with Feeding America, they have access to millions of pounds of food product that is donated by corporations across our country allowing Feeding SD to cost-effectively provide a wide variety of quality food to those they serve.

In the time we were there, we successfully filled 355 bags for the mobile pantry and sorted and boxed just about 3,500 pounds of food that is now ready to be put on the shelves in the on-site pantry. Wow, that sure sounds like a lot! But, did you know that Feeding SD distributes 14 Million pounds of food across the state every year?!?! That takes all of us working together to fulfill that need and Voyage is honored to play a small role in fulfilling their mission.

Avera Race Against Breast Cancer

We have been sponsoring the Avera Race Against Breast Cancer for 4 years now and we like to try new and fun ways to engage the attendees on race day. For the past two years, while participants were there they took a pic in front of our “hashtag wall” and were encouraged to connect with us online and share their stories about their fight. For every picture taken, a comment made and share to our Facebook page we would donate an additional $1 to Breast Cancer Research. In 2015, we donated $500 after all the pictures and on sites were done.

30th Annual Avera Race

Sioux Falls Area Humane Society

This year we will again join forces with the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society to raise funds for all the little (and big) critters that they help out. In recent years, we have been a sponsor at their golf event, “Fore the Animals” and had a vendor booth at their annual, “Bark in the Park” event. Join us on Saturday, August 25th at Pasley Park for the 2018 Bark in the Park and get a photo taken with your favorite furball!

One of our favorite past events was during our 75th Anniversary and we delightfully called it, “75 Days of Fur”. We spent three days at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society between October and November taking pictures of people with their animals, with $1 per photo going to the Humane Society. The credit union was pleased to present a check for $500 after hundreds of photos, shares on social media, and dozens of stories submitted to help out the furry friends at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

For five wonderful years, Voyage Federal Credit Union joined forces with six local business partners helping to build and renovate homes with Habitat for Humanity right here in Sioux Falls. A BIG THANKS to our partners at Avera Hospital, Raven Industries, Orion Foods, Lewis Drug, CenturyLink and Volunteers of America – Dakotas for working alongside us to help Habitat provide safe, decent and affordable housing to families in our community.
