3rd Season of Habitat Wraps Up!
Posted Sep 30, 2015
Last week marked the end of our 3rd season working with Habitat for Humanity and six of our business partners. Our volunteers had the privilege of helping a couple amazing families work on their first home in Sioux Falls. The last two groups of volunteers were from Lewis Drug. The volunteers met up on both Wednesday evening and Saturday morning,
providing 25 sets of hands to help a wonderful family achieve their dreams.
Wednesday evening’s build took place during one of the many downpours that the Sioux Empire has seen over the course of this summer. Fortunately there were interior jobs in need of completion. The duty that evening was framing out basement rooms, and the greatest challenge that evening was not a lack of knowledge of how to hit a nail, but more the lack of light. Regardless, this group was determined and separated duties out between sawing, hauling, nailing and/or giggling depending on the situation.
Saturday’s group was gigantic, with close to 15 individuals showing up to do framing inside and siding outside. Luckily, there was a contractor in the group so teams could separate to cover more ground and save time. Molly Brown, the Marketing Coordinator from Voyage FCU described the event as “The Perfect Build” and went on to state, “ The weather was gorgeous with a nice breeze; the group was happy, many of the individuals were knowledgeable about some applicable skill. No complaints, lots of laughs and we got quite a lot done. A perfect build!.” This morning the volunteers also had the pleasure of working with not only one, but 3 other homeowners. The only nuisance was a ground full of mud and a sky full of bees. Fortunately no one was stung, and even if some boots got stuck nobody cared!
We would like to thank Avera Hospital, Lewis Drug, CenturyLink, Orion Foods, Volunteers of America-Dakotas and Raven industries for supporting Habitat for Humanity! Here’s to next year and more home building!
