Habitat Build with Friends
Posted Jul 21, 2014
This morning was fantastic, not only did I have a few guys from my advertising team at Epicosity but some of my closest girlfriends showed up to help assist building. Also, on the site was the new foreman for Habitat, Scott as well as some yummy apple fritters donated by Orion Foods.
The forecast had mentioned storm fronts but we only got cloudy skies that actually blessed us by blocking the heat but most importantly, the wind. The construction manager Paul said he was thankful for the weather since the task was putting in floor trusses and joists. To put in floor trusses means, that we would be walking a story above ground, on 4 inch pieces of wood all while holding not a tape measure, not a pencil but a nail gun! Never armed with an air powered tool before I found that we were quickly acclimated after only firing a dozen or so nails into the trusses. We quickly took to maneuvering among the joists, measuring and nailing and nailing some more. For the individuals that was more comfortable with both feet on the ground we also had to set up and build the walls for the basement. So, whether you were operating a miter saw or a nail gun the skills we learned were pretty impressive!
Thank you to all the volunteers, friends, Habitat crew and Orion Foods for the breakfast! This was a great build!
