Voyage Federal Credit Union does 75 Days of Giving, in celebration of their 75th year!

To give back to the community that has supported us for 75 years, we decided to give $75 dollars away for 75 Days.

The event launched on December 9th to end appropriately on May 19th, our 75th Annual meeting. Every day a different organization, local cause, or individual was chosen. The Community Involvement Committee chose causes based on recommendations from the public, both from social media posts and from slips turned in at our branches. The public was encouraged to vote on, comment about, and share the weekly posts offering 3 candidates for giving. The campaign was not only directed by the public but by Voyage employees advocating for their own personal causes and groups.

Some days the employees simply went out and gave cash to random strangers on their windshields or at the park. Cash was not the only way of reciprocating; one event included an art teacher and a local reuse store, JAM Art & Supplies. Instead of donating cash Voyage FCU gave Sanne Green, a local artist and teacher, credit at JAM for $150. The executive director of JAM, Jess Johnson, received the funds in exchange for the supplies and commented, “It is so great to have a local bank giving back to the community and actually caring about other local establishments. It’s a win-win for us!” At the other end of the giving, Sanne Green stated, “For my classroom to have extra materials is huge and by purchasing it from JAM I was able to buy so much more for the cost”. Green went on to state, “Voyage is really sweet for thinking of all the different ways of giving back”.

Over the 75 days, Voyage FCU donated to 16 local causes, 18 non-profit organizations, participated in 7 fundraisers, had 49 individual giveaways, and bought lunch for fire fighters, hospice workers, police officers and employees. We handed out everything from cash to fruit to scratch tickets for our members. We got beauty certificates for a nursing home up the road and thanked our mail carriers with coffee mugs filled with gift cards. We showed love to our favorite four legged furry friends at the Humane Society, SEPR, and Big Paws Service Dogs. We donated books to Face it Forward, eggs to the Easter Egg hunt at Red Door Church and lunch to the lovely workers at Aseracare.

We supported our business partners at Avera with flowers for the nurses and giveaways for the runners at the Avera Race Against Breast Cancer. We donated funds to help the Street Outreach program at Volunteers of America and donated to the Partner Breakfast that assists with all departments within the VOA. When surprising customers at a local gas station with free gas, we had a camera mounted to our COO’s chest to make a fun social media video of it. We rewarded people for being healthy at a local gym with water bottles filled with gift cards.  To help the less fortunate, we donated supplies and money to the St. Francis House, Birthright, South Dakota March of Dimes, Children’s Inn, the Ronald McDonald house, Breadbreak, Food for You, McCrossans Boys Ranch, and Habitat for Humanity.

On Tuesday evening we ended our 75th year and our “75 Days of Giving” at the Annual Meeting with food collected to donate to Feeding South Dakota. The Foodbank was the same place we started with for our “75 Day Diaper Drive” that kicked off at our 74th Annual Meeting last year. It was wonderful to come full circle after such an eventful and rewarding time. The past year has really demonstrated just how involved our employees, our members, and the South Dakota community are in giving back. We are so proud to be here and look forward to another 75 years!
